SEATTLE -- Chris Young allowed two hits in seven shutout innings and the Seattle Mariners snapped a four-game losing streak by holding off the Baltimore Orioles 4-3 on Saturday. Billy Price Jersey . Dustin Ackley doubled twice and scored two runs for Seattle. Robinson Cano had an RBI double. After the Orioles took advantage of an error by All-Star third baseman Kyle Seager to score three times in the eighth, Fernando Rodney closed it out for his 200th career save. The 35-year-old Young (9-6), picked up on waivers March 27 after getting released by Washington, walked three and matched his season high with eight strikeouts. Over his past seven starts, the big right-hander is 4-2 with a 2.12 ERA and 43 strikeouts. Young has won nine games for the first time since 2007 with San Diego, when he was 9-8. His career high is 12 wins in 2005 with Texas. Young did not pitch in the majors last season. He considered retiring until shoulder surgery last June relieved his pain. Danny Farquhar took over for Young in the eighth and nearly shut the door before the Orioles scored three times. A two-out error by Seager on Chris Davis grounder allowed a pair of runs to score. J.J. Hardy drove in Davis with a single. Rodney worked the ninth for his AL-leading 28th save in 31 opportunities. Delmon Young had two hits for Baltimore. Bud Norris (8-7), who won five of his previous six starts, went five innings for the Orioles. He allowed four runs and six hits with three walks and six strikeouts. The Mariners touched up Norris for three runs in the third. After loading the bases with one out, he hit Kendrys Morales with a 1-2 pitch to force in a run. Seager followed with an RBI single to right. With two outs and an 0-2 count on Logan Morrison, the Orioles shifted their defence and left only one infielder on the left side, shaded toward second base. Morrison then reached out and punched an RBI single through the wide-open left side. Left fielder Nelson Cruz bobbled the ball, but Morales hesitated breaking for home. He was thrown out when he tried to get back to third. Consecutive doubles by Ackley and Cano produced another run in the fifth, making it 4-0. NOTES: Endy Chavez, scheduled to lead off and play right field for Seattle, was scratched an hour before the game because of a jammed left pinkie. Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon inserted Corey Hart and moved James Jones to leadoff. . McClendon likes what he sees from Morales since the DH returned to the Mariners on Friday following a trade with Minnesota. "Hes a nice piece," McClendon said. "But one guys not going to win it. Other guys need to step up." ... LHP James Paxton, on the DL with a strained lat since April 9, will make perhaps his final rehab start for Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday. He will then join the Mariners on their road trip. No decision had been made on when Paxton will be activated. . Baltimores Manny Machado (back) started at third base for the first time in five games. . Orioles manager Buck Showalter said RHP Miguel Gonzalez is scheduled to start Sunday, but added: "We could present ourselves with some interesting options for (Sunday) and (for) Anaheim (on Monday) if certain things happen." Cordy Glenn Jersey . So what happens? Stevenson lands a huge left to Dawsons temple only 76 seconds into the opening round and walks away with the championship belt. "I said Id knock him out," said Stevenson (21-1). Mark Walton Jersey . Ramirez is still hitting behind Puig, only now they are in the third and fourth spots, and the change is starting to generate positive results for manager Don Mattingly. http://www.bengalsgear.com/ . In a pregame tribute commemorating his final contest at Coors Field on Wednesday night, Helton caught the ceremonial first pitch from his daughter with his wife, younger daughter and good friend Peyton Manning watching from the field.MINNEAPOLIS - The Blue Jays swept a series for the first time since June 21-23 (Baltimore), the final three victories of the 11-game winning streak. With Sundays 2-0 win over the Twins, Toronto has won 10 of its last 13 games. The club has won four-consecutive series for the first time this season. ROGERS WITH STAND OUT ROAD TRIP Esmil Rogers won both of his starts on the trip, following up his 6 1/3 innings of shutout baseball in Phoenix with 7 2/3 innings scoreless against the Twins, his longest outing of the season. There are a lot of moving parts when it comes to next seasons rotation, with only R.A. Dickey and Mark Buehrle seemingly locks for starting spots. If Rogers is auditioning, hes not worrying about it. "Thats one of the reasons, when you go home and the office thinks about it, theyre going to think about September, how everybody did in September," said Rogers. "When you finish the season a lot of people forget a little bit about that because September is more close to the finish of the season. I try to take the opportunity and I try to be ready every time that I get it." NO QUIT The Blue Jays believe a strong finish will set the table for a more successful 2014. "Its better for us as players because it gets our confidence better for whats going to happen for next year," said Jose Reyes. "If we finish the season strong, playing very good baseball, when we go to spring training we believe as players we can do it. Its been a disappointing season for us but the way that weve played lately is the way were supposed to play." "There are young guys here that we want to teach them the winning mentality," said Casey Janssen. "Not to be light and loose when we lose and to be frustrated and also, what comes with winning is coming to the park and putting a smile on your face and passing the time in a positive way.&qquot; JANSSEN NEARING 30 SAVES With each save, Casey Janssen adds to his personal single-season career high. Andrew Billings Jersey. He picked up his 29th in Sundays 2-0 win over the Twins. The next stop is 30, which seems like a nice number. "If I get 30 and there are two weeks left in the season am I going to be content," asked Janssen. "I dont really have a special number. I just want to go out there and try to save every game possible and obviously help our team win." REYES MAKING PROGRESS Shortstop Jose Reyes is looking forward to being healthy in next season. Having started all but one of the Blue Jays games since his return on June 26 from a 66-game absence with sprained left ankle, Reyes says hes pleased with the way hes progressing as the season draws to a close. "I feel like its way better," said Reyes. "I think the last two weeks its coming along very good. It feels a lot looser, (I feel pain) still a little bit but its way better than it was before. So, you know, thats good to see. I feel happy about it that I can run on the field; do my stuff without thinking about anything else." Reyes is putting in the time. He estimates he spends 90 minutes daily doing a combination of ankle-specific exercises, massage and hot tub treatment to prepare his ankle for each game. "To be honest with you, when Im on the field, I dont feel it," he said. "When Im slowing down, I can run full speed with no problem without thinking about it, its when Im slowing down. Like I said, the last two weeks have been way better. I feel like me playing the game." ROTATION FOR ANGELS SERIES Mark Buehrle will pitch on Tuesday, followed by R.A. Dickey on Wednesday and J.A. Happ on Thursday. With off days last Thursday and on Monday, the Blue Jays elected to skip Todd Redmonds turn in the rotation to better control his workload.
